Pontoon floats are the core of every Floats and Frames build. Each Cutlass Marine pontoon float is rotationally moulded from high-grade polyethylene at our Poole, Dorset workshop, with hard-chine geometry and thick structural walls for outstanding buoyancy, stability and flotation.
These sealed buoyancy tanks suit DIY pontoon projects, self-build floating cabins, house boats, docks and jetties alike. The Cutlass 400 has a 6 mm wall for tidal, freshwater and brackish water; the Cutlass 800_F adds a closed-cell foam core in a 12 mm HDPE shell for heavy, multi-storey floating homes.
Every float tank has an access cap and a ballastable cavity to trim your pontoon. Each one is fully recyclable and repairable, and is rated for a service life of up to 60 years. Pontoon units are available for sale on their own or as part of a complete modular kit.

It is a robust, scalable base for floating home superstructures, floating car parks, driving-range greens, industrial pontoons and waterway-maintenance rafts. Multi-float configurations give greater stability and shallower draft, launch straight from a riverbank or slipway, and bolt together with only spanners.

Building on our pontoon bases, we supply complete bolt-together aluminium houseboat and floating home kits, from a compact single-storey floating cabin to a multi-storey modular floating house. Each self-build houseboat kit bolts straight to our Cutlass floats, so construction starts immediately from a riverside, marina berth or mooring using only spanners and a battery driver.
Kits ship as modular panels: side frames, roof trusses, window and door aperture panels, bulkheads, covered-deck modules and balustrade rails, combined into any layout of rooms, terraces and glazing. From an open-plan studio pod to a three-storey liveaboard residence, the underlying floating home kit is the same.
Where appropriate we advise on structural configuration, buoyancy loading and VAT zero-rating for qualifying permanent dwellings.
